Land Rover Series 3 SWB 88 Rebuilt on New Galvanised Chassis Almost Nut & Bolt

This has undergone complete restoration and has been fitted with a new Richards Galvanised chassis. This is almost a nut and bolt restoration and has taken many many hours to complete. Take A Look At The Walk Round Video. There are loads more pics of the car on my google drive at the link below.

Born in Feb 1976 this vehicle has been well looked after but in 2011 was in need of a bit of welding! The owner parked up in the back of the farm and there it stayed for several years until I found it 4/5 years ago. It came home with me after a year of "negotiation" with the owner who wanted to restore it but was scared off with the rusty chassis. With the Pandemic in March 2020, I decided, with the help of a young friend to go to work! We stripped down to assess the state of the rust and decided the chassis was gone too far.

A new fully galvanised chassis from Richards of Sheffield with removable gearbox crossmember was ordered (took over 3 months to arrive) and sent to be primed, then given 3 coats of black chassis paint followed by pumping waxoil into the chassis holes. Meanwhile the old chassis was stripped, the parts all being cleaned ready for re-assembly/repair, but not refurbished at all. The new chassis came with new bushes and we refitted cleaned axles with a new set of replacement springs(rear). Front springs had been replaced prior to parking up. The bulkhead was sent to local fabricators..

The engine was running fine prior to removal(I drove it around our yard) , and had a new clutch fitted just prior to being parked up, so was sent off for steam cleaning and repainting. New engine mounts/ new nuts/bolts fitted. The Odometer says it has done only 29900 miles. I checked the official MOT site and this may well be true as the previous several years mot's agree.

To move it around the steering gear was refitted but not refurbished. So to summary A new fully galvanised chassis. New set of replacement springs. One new "A" pillar/ two feet/ two galvanised footwells. New engine mounts/ new nuts/bolts.

This is the point that I bought this vehicle - chassis fitted and rolling with engine, gearbox and bulkhead fitted. To date we have also bought new for this. Brake and Clutch Master and Slave Cylinders. Full Light Set including Led Headlights. New Radiator, New exhaust back box.

New door rubbers, gear knobs etc -------- Add that lot up!!!! So as i say almost a nut and bolt resto. Then she has been completely stripped to bare aluminium, primed and painted Bronze Green and then lacquered. Most of the ancillary parts have been painted black.

So now you have the Land Rover you see. It needs a few finishing touches as I have also lost my helper. That is the brakes are soft and spongy so they need bleeding but really you just need new slave cylinders on the wheels as i cant open the bleed nipples, and then i fine tune and a last run through electrics although nearly everything is working. So get her trailered home do the last bits and you have yourself and almost new Land Rover. Only been driven around our land. Read the list of new stuff and you can see this car should last and last. Increasing in value all the time and getting rare. I have a new V5 in my name.
