These heaters are still manufactured today from the original tooling, using all copper wire wound tubes for the element for a long service life and resistance to blockage and leaks. The use of copper also makes these units more efficient than the Smiths type heaters.
As these elements are only 2 5/8 deep, neither will fit into an original Smiths circular heater without changing the position of the fan motor. This is done by reducing the length of the spacers on which the fan motor mounts. By moving the body of the motor deeper into the element, it enables the fan blade to be adjusted closer to the new element and avoids a foul condition with the inside of the front cover and the fan blade. When remounting the heater assembly back into the vehicle, the heater will need to be spaced rearward from the bulkhead.
This is to avoid, a foul condition between the demister outlet on the front cover, and the dash panel top/cross member.
